A short DIY guide on how to make you're own Hogwarts acceptance letter. As I wrote in my last post my sister just had her bachelorette party and I made her a letter inviting her to attend Hogwarts in the fall. I'm not going to bore you with details, as you can always just scroll down and read the blog post I made before this one. Obviously you want to start off with a blank Word document (or which ever program your heart desires to use). Go on Google and search: Old paper A4 By adding the "A4" you know you're getting the right proportions for a basic page/letter. (If you're lazy this is the one I went with, so go ahead and save it if you want): Now, Whats important is that you set this picture as the background so you'll be able to to write on top of it later ("behind text"). This is a good time to google a "Hogwarts crest" (You won't be putting the crest in just yet, but it's nice to get it out of the way as early as possible). It's important to make sure you get a crest without a backdrop so you can put it straight on the old paper picture, and mark it as "in front of text". This wasn't necessarily the "prettiest" crest I found, but it was the only one without a backdrop, and I did not have the time nor energy to shop a backdrop out. Life sucks when you peak at 04:00 (am) and have to get up by 08:00 (am). Now you want to have your text ready. I didn't writ it myself, but I found a formal invitation to attend Hogwarts and a complete packing list of essentials. I found it on: hellopapermoon And it reads: Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry Headmaster: Albus Dumbledore (Order of Merlin, First Class, Grand Sorc., Chf. Warlock, Supreme Mugwump, International Confed. of Wizards) Dear (Your name) We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find enclosed a list of all necessary books and equipment. Term begins on September 1. We await your owl by no later than July 31. Yours sincerely, Minerva McGonagall Deputy Headmistress I put this part of the letter in a completely different font from the rest. I wanted it to look Handwritten by Prof McGonagall herself. I used the font "Snell Roundhand", I also made the Capital letters in her name a larger size (36 and the rest of there name 28), again to make it look more authentic. The second part of the text is: Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry UNIFORM First-year students will require: 1.Three sets of plain work robes (black) 2.One plain pointed hat (black) for day wear 3.One pair of protective gloves (dragon hide or similar) 4.One winter cloak (black, with silver fastenings) Please note that all pupils' clothes should carry name tags. COURSE BOOKS All students should have a copy of each of the following: The Standard Book of Spells (Grade 1) by Miranda Goshawk A History of Magic by Bathilda Bagshot Magical Theory by Adalbert Waffling A Beginner's Guide to Transfiguration by Emeric Switch One Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungi by Phyllida Spore Magical Drafts and Potions by Arsenius Jigger Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by Newt Scamander The Dark Forces: A Guide to Self-Protection by Quentin Trimble OTHER EQUIPMENT 1 wand 1 cauldron (pewter, standard size 2) 1 set glass or crystal phials 1 telescope 1 set brass scales Students may also bring an owl OR a cat OR a toad. PARENTS ARE REMINDED THAT FIRST YEARS ARE NOT ALLOWED THEIR OWN BROOMSTICKS The font I used for this section is the same as the font used in the header at the very top of all the pages. It is called "Magic School One" and the link can be found on HelloPaperMoon's site, with a long list of other fitting font's. put the crest in at the top and add a train ticket, as nothing says "Off to Hogwarts" like "9 3/4". If I were to do this again I would put a page with nothing but the old paper image between each "front" of the letter and print it out as double sided, so you get the old paper paper look on the front and back.
I'd also stick a feather on the outside of the envelope to make add some "owliness". Don't forget to add some absurdly detailed information to the address like "The house on the hill" or "The room by the sea" as we don't all live in cupboards under stairs. As a nice finishing touch you can write "Post delivered by owl" on the envelope and drip some red wax on the back. If you don't want to spend any money on a wax seal you can simply get a cork to press the wax down and make it look like a seal on the back of the envelope.
